Wet Lab Bench Scientist Intern Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
Genomic Expression utilizes RNA seq on Illumina platforms to analyze gene expression in a variety of cancers using tissues from blood, FFPE, and fresh frozen samples.
1. The wet lab intern will primarily be responsible for extracting nucleic acid (RNA and DNA) from various materials and create cDNA libraries for sequencing on Illumina instruments.
2. Maintain and update SOP’s
3. The wet lab intern will also have an opportunity to learn and apply molecular and cell biology methods to support projects within the lab.
4. As a member of a project team, may assist in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols.
5. May occasionally instruct others in basic laboratory techniques;
6. Performs related laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and cleaning equipment and ordering supplies;
7. May process orders or invoices or solicit quotes from vendors under the direction of administrative personnel.
8. May occasionally help with data analysis with the Bioinformatic team
Working Conditions:
- May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment.
- May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

Basic Qualifications
College background in biology and at least some experience working in a wet laboratory setting and genetic classes are required.
Additional Qualifications
BA/BS degree in biology or related field preferred. Must be familiar with handling RNA, nucleic extraction/quantification, and RNA-seq. Experience with RNA-seq is highly desirable. The ideal candidate understands and follows good laboratory practices including record keeping. Any bioinformatic skills are also welcomed. Other skills sought include being well-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, excellent interpersonal skills, and good communication/presentation skills. The ideal candidate should possess willingness and interest in learning new skills, technologies, and willing to go the extra mile.
